‘A love sip, he called it, because you shared the little things you loved with the people you loved.’

– Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Purple Hibiscus

When we first discovered Klein Welmoed in 2007, we fell in love with it. It was something about the views and the sense of serenity. The name means ‘Small Courage’ in Afrikaans, and that is what it symbolised: a little estate, with endless possibilities.

We began by planting vines and olive trees and, slowly but surely, transformed the estate into a working farm. We are a family who are passionate about delicious wine, and our vision was to grow everything ourselves.

THIS DREAM BECAME KLEIN WELMOED AS IT IS TODAY

Klein Welmoed is a mood; the feeling you get from coming to live here for a little while.

We call this our FarmCharm. When you stay here, you feel connected to nature. You find yourself wanting to be outdoors, going for long walks around the dam and exploring the vineyards and olive groves. You also sometimes want to simply sit with a glass of wine, taking in the views of the Helderberg. In summer, your days might be spent lying by the pool, and in winter, you might choose to be cosy, reading your book by the fire.

We want to share this very gentle, special farm with you. We hope it inspires you, as it has inspired us and the international guests who return year after year. Come and experience our FarmCharm, entering into an idyll where our Dorper sheep graze quietly beneath the mountains.
